AHMADABAD: Urban local bodies across the state are now demanding faster turn-key systems and construction technologies to deliver affordable houses in bulk and in a time-bound manner over the next five years. A seminar on ‘New Construction technology for affodacle housing‘ was organized at the Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA). The seminar was hosted by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).

Officials of the urban development department also promised that apart from housing for Low Income Groups (LIG) and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), a few civic bodies were also planning homes for Middle Income Groups (MIG).

Municipal commissioner Guruprasad Mohapatra claimed that AMC was planning to build 3,000 additional houses for LIG and 7,000 houses for EWS in the coming years. In a press release, he also claimed that AMC would undertake housing for the MIG category.

Mohapatra claimed that the houses will not look like a typical EWS colony, but would have parks, children’s play areas and green surroundings. “The purpose of holding such a seminar was to expose developers and government officials to the whole new range of affordable construction technologies. AMC was the first in the country to adopt MASCON technology for EWS houses,” says Mohapatra . Principal secretary of urban development G R Aloria claimed that in the next five years the state government was planning to construct 25 lakh houses.
