AHMEDABAD: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to build 9,959 houses for the weaker sections of the city. These houses will be constructed at 29 places in various parts of the city.AMC officials said that of the 9,959, AMC will build 5082 houses for Economic Weaker Sections (EWS) and 4877 houses for Low-Income Group (LIG) segment. These housing schemes will launched in 29 different places including Vejalpur, Nikol, Chandkheda, Chandlodia, Thaltej, Kali, Vadaj, Vastral, Kankaria and Shahibag among other areas.
Officials said that apart from land reserved for housing in approved town planning schemes, the AMC will also utilise 20% from the closed mills for these projects.Officials said that to qualify for an EWS house which has a carpet area of 28 sq meters, the annual income of the family should be less than Rs one lakh. These houses will be given to the beneficiary for Rs three lakh. The applicant will be required to pay Rs 7500 at the time of application.
For the LIG scheme houses which have a carpet area of 45 sq m, the income of the family should be between Rs one lakh and Rs 2.5 lakh. The allotted house will be cost Rs 10.50 lakh and Rs 11.50 lakh. The applicant will be required to pay Rs 20,000 with the application.Officials said that a beneficiary allotted the house under the scheme will not be allowed to sell or give his unit on rent for seven years. The person who is allotted the house will be required to pay a minimum 20% of the cost and the rest will be payable in 10 installments.
