Focus on property tax collection: GHMC chief

HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) commissioner Somesh Kumar has directed the officials to concentrate more on revision petitions related to property tax collection by conducting property tax Parishkaram-3. With this, cases of various tax related issues could be settled on the spot giving scope for more collection, he added.

The commissioner said as many as 760 cases involving an amount of Rs 97.30 crore were pending in the courts.

Somesh Kumar held a review meeting with all the additional commissioners, zonal commissioners, deputy commissioners and senior officials of the revenue collection wing at the GHMC office on Friday. He instructed all the deputy commissioners to collect property tax from top 250 defaulters, who owe an amount of Rs 55 crore, in their respective circles. He asked the officials to carry out data purification exercise which includes deleting duplicate entries etc., and also to conduct weekly reviews with the bill collectors to achieve targets.

Somesh Kumar said that the GHMC tax department had already collected 47% of telephone numbers of the tax payers and directed the zonal commissioners to take action against who failed to collect the telephone numbers of the tax payers.

Meanwhile, mayor Mohd Majid Hussain held a review meeting on the arrangements being made for the world metropolis meet to be held in October 2014. The mayor asked the officials to give importance on signages, road marking apart from other regular works. He said GHMC would seek necessary help from the chief minister for the prestigious programme.
