HYDERABAD: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials on Saturday seized movable assets (furniture) from the office of secretary, Gaddiannaram Fruit Market, for property tax arrears of Rs three crore.
A GHMC team, led by zonal commissioner (East) CN Raghu Prasad, visited the fruit market and seized the furniture. "We have seized office furniture, including tables and chairs, from front office, a computer and a refrigerator from the secretary's office," GHMC valuation officer G Rajendra Kumar told STOI.
As per the GHMC records, the fruit market has to pay Rs one crore property tax as on April 1, 2011, but due to non-payment, the arrears have accumulated up to Rs three crore. They used to pay part amount instead of the amount mentioned in the demand notice. In fact, the GHMC had also slapped notices earlier to clear the dues, but there was no response from them. Finally, we had seize their assets," he said.
