GUWAHATI: The Kamrup (Metro) district administration will soon start processing pending applications of residents seeking land pattas. The assurance came after agitators staged a demonstration in front of the deputy commissioner's office here on Monday, demanding land pattas.
Additional DC of Kamrup (Metro), Dhruba Jyoti Das, said the district administration will expedite the processing of the applications of genuine landless people who have been seeking land pattas from the district administration.
Das said the agitators, who gathered under the banner of Guwahati Mati Pattakaran Sangram Samiti, told the administration that about 4,000 such applications seeking land pattas are pending in the deputy commissioner's office.
He, however, said that granting land pattas will not be possible unless the state government finalizes the new land policy, which is being prepared following recommendations of the Bhumidhar Barman committee, which was headed by former minister Barman.
"We will process the files of the genuine landless people who are eligible to get land pattas at the earliest," Das said.
