Extend date for payment, say allottees

DELHI: Fed up with the quality of construction at Ganga Complex in Vasant Kunj, scores of residents are writing to DDA saying it shouldn't expect money for the flats it hasn't provided. DDA developed the flats for their last housing scheme in 2010. In December it had announced that the flats were ready and had asked for the full payment in the demand letter. After getting the letters, several allottees had been visiting the site and were upset with the state of affairs.

With lifts out of order, erratic water and electricity supply and lack of others basic facilities, few allottees have moved in. After their visits several allottees have written to the authority for extending the deadline for payments, which is the last week of February, by another eight months, which is when they expect at least the basic work to be completed.

"It was a depressing sight. Wires were lying around and there was no security gate or boundary wall. We wrote to DDA along with 10 other allottees. DDA should understand that not everyone can pay EMIs for this flat and live comfortably elsewhere simultaneously," said Rajbir Singh, an allottee at Ganga complex.

Senior DDA officials say the picture isn't that grim. "In 98% of the cases where demand letters have been sent for the Ds6 complex, people have accepted the offer. There are certainly issues of finishing touches and bathroom fittings, but after basic work, these will be taken on priority," said a senior DDA official.
