NOIDA: The Noida Authority on Tuesday freed 20,000 sqm of government land worth about Rs 150 crore from encroachment along the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. A police complaint was also lodged by the agency against illegal colonizers for criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery and fraud. One person has been arrested in the case.
"There were illegal constructions on khasra numbers 220, 225, 226 and 74 in Gulavli village near Sector 151, which were razed. Many plots carved out by illegal builders were also cleared," said BM Pokhriyal, project engineer. A 30m-wide road was also cleared of encroachments.
The Authority's tough stance, however, belies the actual situation. A 15km stretch along the Hindon floodplains located off the Noida-Greater Noida link road near Sector 122 and adjoining Greater Noida (west) continues to have illegal structures. These structures stretch from Hindon Pushta along NH-24 up to Kulesra in Greater Noida. This entire area falls under the flood zone where all construction activity is banned. More than 100 builders continue to illegally operate in the area meant only for agricultural use.
