GREATER NOIDA: Weeks after the land consolidation fraud — amounting to more than Rs 350 crore — was revealed in Jaganpur and Afzalpur villages in Greater Noida, two more villages are under the vigilance scanner. A committee headed by the Uttar Pradesh Revenue Secretary has launched an investigation into any fraud involving misappropriating land and land compensation pertaining to a huge area falling under the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA).

According to officials, 90 files have been seized from Gautam Budh Nagar and Bulandshahr district officials. The principal secretary (revenue department) is keeping an eye on the investigation being conducted by the committee. The two villages on their radar include Atta Fatehpur and Dankaur in Greater Noida. A fact-finding report will be submitted by the inquiry committee in a high-profile meeting to be held on September 10 in Lucknow.

In July this year, the Allahabad high court, while hearing a PIL filed by affected farmers of Jaganpur and Afzalpur, had directed that more such villages could be involved in the fraud and forgery. The court had said that land records of villages of Dankaur and Atta Fatehpur be examined.

In June last year, 32 people had been booked for forgery and manipulation of land records. However, so far no action or arrests had been made on the basis of this FIR. On July 1, 2014, 11 officials were suspended, while four days later on July 4, 20 more PCS officials, including a dozen gazetted officers, were charged by the UP government. On July 7, the UP government ordered the suspension of seven more officials allegedly involved in the fraud. July 8 saw an FIR filed against 18 officials and the land mafia in the case.

The land consolidation fraud came to light about a year ago when several farmers lodged a complaint with the commissioner (land consolidation) of Uttar Pradesh.

in connivance with private parties to the tune of over Rs 350 crore. Land in two villages — Afzalpur, Jaganpur — was scrutinized at the time.
