DELHI: Udyog Vihar’s plot owners have asked local industrialists not to pay their annual maintenance charges to the industry authority for the next financial year.
Members of the industrial association here said that those plot owners who have defrayed their property taxes to the MCG need not pay the extra maintenance money at the end of the year to HSIIDC.
Earlier this year, a number of industrialists had paid their property tax dues to the MCG ‘under protest.’ “Having paid the property tax to the MCG, the entrepreneurs here should stop paying maintenance charges to HSIIDC,” said a representative of the Chamber of Industries of Udyog Vihar. In an e-mail sent by the association to local industrialists, it was made clear that taxes can only be collected in a specific area by one civic authority which is responsible for providing basic services.
“In the Corporation Act, Section 87 pertains to imposition of property tax and Section 43 to obligatory functions aiming at providing and maintaining all necessary facilities and amenities like drinking water, sewage, drainag etc.,” the email stated.
Over the last few months, the issue of dual taxation has become the scourge of Udyog Vihar’s industrial community. The general sentiment here is that taxes should only be collected by one civic agency, and the double demands put forward by the HSIIDC and MCG are illegitimate.
Earlier this month, the state government passed an order that effectively handed over part of the management duties in Udyog Vihar to the MCG. While the decision was taken weeks ago, the municipal corporation is yet to commence work in the area.
