AHMEDABAD: Affordable housing seems to be the flavour of the three-day property show by Gujarat Institute of Housing and Estate Developers (GIHED) which begins on 27th September. About 70 developers will showcase residential, commercial and plotting projects.

According to officials, about 250 projects will be displayed at the show, of which around 50% of projects will be affordable housing. “We are expecting about 125-odd projects in the affordable category and these will be priced between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 40 lakh,” said Deepak Patel, chairman of the show’s organizing committee.

He said that these projects will be the main attraction this year for buyers looking for affordable housing.

Outgoing president Rushabh Patel said these affordable houses will be of 50, 60 and 80 sq m areas. He said the three-day show will be held at Gujarat University Convention hall. GIHED officials said that the number of commercial properties though, would be less than at last year’s event. Of the 250-odd projects, only 10% will be commercial.

Officials said last year’s show was held in October and had only 48 developers and 145 projects on display. This year, according to officials, the projects which began last year and were still not sold off completely will also be on display.

Officials said that this is the second year that affordable housing will have a greater share of the display. “Till 2011, most of the residential units on sale during the show were for the higher income group. However, with the action shifting to Ahmedabad’s periphery, affordable housing projects make up the majority this year,” said an official.
