Gujarat govt warns town planning officers

AHMEDABAD: The state government has warned municipal corporations that strict action would be taken against town planning officers (TPOs) who deduct less land for common amenities from private property owners than the mandatory 40%. The urban development department has said that charges could be filed against such errant officers.

The rule, however, will not be applicable in the areas where the state government has already finalized TP schemes. In Ahmedabad, nearly 10 TP schemes are being prepared and all of them are already under scrutiny for adherence of rules.

In many new TP schemes in Thaltej, Sola, Gota, Sarkhej, Vejalpur, Ramol, Hathijan, Ghodasar, Narol and Nikol, there have been instances of illegal encroachment and construction. "There are residents who are paying for the impact fee in such areas. But should such people also pay up for the shortfall in the deduction of land, is a question which has to be clarified to the residents," says a seniorAMC official.
