AHMEDABAD: Investigation directorate of the income tax department on Tuesday conducted a search and seizure operation on two prominent city-based builders - Dharmdev and Sayona groups - and a leading onion trader Rakesh Raghunath Tanna.
Over 150 I-T personnel searched 40 premises during the operation. Offices, homes and sites of Umang Thakkar, director of Dharmdev Group were checked and documents and computer hard disks were seized for further investigation. The officials also searched houses of directors of Sayona Group, Suresh Patel and Ghanshyam Patel in Meghaninagar and near new high court.
Tanna, who is a leading onion trader at Agriculture Produce Market Committee ( APMC) market in Sarkhej, has four shops there. "The increasing onion prices is one of the reasons for raids on his establishments," said an I-T official.
The search proceedings were initiated in 16 cases against the builders and survey proceedings were initiated in 24 cases against the same builders and the onion trader.
Dharmdev Group has many low budget residential schemes coming up in Naroda, Nikol, Narol, Vastral, Shahibaug among others while Sayona Group has launched residential schemes in Ghatlodia, including Sayona City.
In April this year, Gujarat high court had cancelled a bungalow scheme, Neelkanth Villa, developed by Dharmdev Group. Permission for as many as 188 bungalows in the scheme was cancelled over development permission by Auda.
