Rs 55.22 lakh fines on builders

AHMEDABAD: The estate department of AMC has issued notices in 34 cases and slapped fine to the tune of Rs 55,20,000 to builders and developers for violating various norms in their projects.

The south zone team issued notices to seven builders and asked them to pay fine of Rs 10,95,000. The projects that were fined on Monday include Dharmkunj Residency, Rajnand Residency, Jainam Residency, Aditya Aawas, Devmanek, Semor Residency and Karnavati Park.The estate and encroachment department of the AMC demolished illegal constructions spread over 4,528 sq ft of area in TP scheme 50 opposite Shankar Estate in Inderpuri ward.

Illegal under-construction compound walls were pulled down by the south zone team of the AMC after they were found being constructed without proper permissions. The AMC will demolish all constructions done after March 28, 2011 if found violating Section 260 of the BPMC Act. The south zone team of AMC also sealed 22 shops, complexes and godowns over non-payment of property tax.

To recover the due property tax, shops were sealed in different areas namely Vatva extension, Sahkari Laati Bazaar and Maninagar extension among others. These shop owners had not paid property tax of over Rs 30 lakh.

AHMEDABAD: About 47% of public land worth nearly Rs 50,000 crore in Ahmedabad is fit to be sold by the government, says a paper by the World Bank.
