BANGALORE: The long wait to get a site in layouts developed by Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) may finally be over: The authority plans to invite applications for 5,000 sites in Kempegowda Layout from March this year.

The chief minister on February 7 said, “BDA has acquired 2,000 acres of land and started developing 5,000 sites and other amenities. We will initiate the process of inviting applications from March.”

BDA did not form any new layout in the last 10 years though it announced plans to develop five new ones: Kempegowda, Shivaram Karanth, S Nijalingappa, KC Reddy and Devaraj Urs to allot 2 lakh sites.

Arkavathy Layout is the last one BDA developed. The layout had received 2.7 lakh applications for 20,000 sites. But it got mired in legal tangles after several people challenged it in various courts. Finally, BDA allotted nearly 9,000 sites but most of the beneficiaries are yet to get their plots due to compensation issues.

In 2007, BDA decided to form Kempegowda Layout and issued a notification to acquire 4,043 acres and 27 guntas of land in villages in Bangalore North and South taluks. But it has so far managed to acquire only 2,000 acres due to legal challenges.
