BANGALORE: Lokayukta police on Friday arrested a first division assistant with the Bangalore Development Authority's (BDA) land acquisition division for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.

The official took the amount to sanction and pay compensation for a land acquired by the authority.

Rangaswamy was trapped on Friday while accepting the bribe amount from a resident of Bilekallahalli near Begur in South Bangalore, explained HNS Rao, Lokayukta additional director general of police.

The complainant's 16 guntas of land was acquired by the civic body for a fixed compensation. To disburse that, Rangaswamy initially demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 which was later brought down to Rs 20,000. Lokayukta police caught him when he was taking the bribe from the petitioner.
