KOZHIKODE: Putting an end to the three year long delay in finding a contractor for the government Cyberpark project, billed as the cornerstone of IT dreams of North Kerala, the meeting of the board of directors of Cyberpark held here on Thursday decided to award the work contract of the Rs 44 crore IT building project to a Kochi- based company.
The meeting of board of directors of Cyberpark, chaired by IT and Industries principal secretary, P H Kurian, gave the nod to award the work contract to Cherian Varkey Construction Company Pvt Ltd, which had emerged as the lowest bidder in the tender process by quoting 0.64 % below the Probable Amount of Contract of Rs 44 crore.
Six companies participated in the tendering process in which three firms were shortlisted.
Kozhikode Cyberpark CEO, K G Gireesh Babu said the work contract will be awarded within a week. The company is expected to complete the construction work within 540 days. The works would involve setting up the first IT building of the park at an area of 2.84 lakh sqft.
"Stage has been set for the commencement of works of the Cyberpark which had been beset by long delays due to various reasons. Now with the board approving the contractor, we are looking forward to the completion of the building within the stipulated time," he said.
Though the foundation stone of the Cyberpark project was laid in May 2010, the director board of Cyberpark had earlier terminated the initial Rs 38 crore construction contract awarded to the Hyderabad- based KRR Infra Projects following the firm's failure to commence the works.
