PUNE: For Prachi Puranik of Pashan, this year's Gudi Padwa on Monday is particularly special as her family will bring home an SUV.

Like hers, many families wait for this auspicious day to start new ventures, invest in property, buy jewellery, grain and home appliances.

"Our car has been ready since the last one month, but we were waiting for this day to bring it home. We have also been organizing Satyanarayan pooja at our house for the past four years. You reap the benefits of what you do on this day. This year, the car has come as a bonus," said Puranik.

This festive season, business is looking up for the real estate sector, said Rohit Gera, vice-president of Credai.

"Green shoots have emerged in the last couple of weeks. People who have been sitting on the fence have renewed their interest in investing and there are many who have asked developers to hold the property for them as they want to seal the deal on Monday," he said.

Even the consumer durables and electronics goods industry is on the upswing.

Nilesh Kothari, regional customer service manager of Vijay Sales (Pune and Maharashtra), said, "Air-conditioners and coolers are selling big, because of the rising temperature. Besides, the sale of LED television sets is also good."

Kothari added, "The market has picked up after a lull of almost six months and goods like cellphones, cameras and tablets are also selling briskly."

Pune: For Pashan resident Prachi Puranik has been awaiting this day for the past several months. After all, her family is bringing home a brand new SUV today on the occasion of Gudi Padwa, counted among the most auspicious days of the year.

Considering it is the start of the new year of the Hindu calender, Gudi Padwa is all about new beginnings. Families consider it as the most auspicious day to start new ventures, invest in property, buy jewellery, grains and expensive home appliances. Many people wait for this day to buy new cars, start new projects or buy land as it is believed to double the profits and prosperity.

It's the similar feeling for Prachi too, who said, "Our car has been ready since the last one month, but we were looking for a good occasion to bring it home. What you do on this day reaps you benefits the whole year round, which is why we have been organising a special Satyanarayan pooja at our house every year since the last four years. This year, the car has come as a bonus".

The festival has brought cheer even to the real estate sector. Rohit Gera, vice president of CREDAI said, "Positivity has returned to the market and realtors have seen some green shoots of demand in the last couple of weeks. People who have been sitting on the fence have shown renewed interest in investing their money and there are many who have asked developers to hold the property for them as they want to seal the deal on Monday".

The sentiment is echoed by the consumer durables and electronics goods industry. Nilesh Kothari, regional customer service manager of Vijay Sales (Pune and Maharashtra) said, "Gudi Padwa is a very big day in Maharashtra and we have seen a lot of positive movement in the last couple of days. Goods like ACs and air-coolers are selling big, especially because of the rising temperatures. Besides, the sale of LED TVs is also good in light of the ongoing T20 cricket world cup. The market has picked up after a lull of almost six months and goods like mobile phones, cameras and tablets are also moving fast now".
