MUMBAI: Once known as a temple city having religious importance, Nashik has grown by leaps and bounds to become a bustling mini-metro. In the last few years, its skyline has changed with high-rise buildings dotting the landscape.

This city today boasts of decent climate round the year, excellent educational and recreational facilities and good connectivity with a fourlane highway connecting it to Mumbai while work on the Nashik-Pune fourlaning is underway. The city boasts of one of the longest flyovers in the state, thus, reflecting the infrastructure that the city is poised for in near future.

One of the major factors contributing to the development of Nashik is ‘Simhasta Kumbhmela’, held every 12 years. The forthcoming Kumbhmela is slated for 2015 and works to host it are afoot. The mega-event has always helped improve infrastructure through wider roads, better parking facilities, improved transport and internal connectivity.

Another important growth driver for the city has been its wine industry, which has earned Nashik national as well as international recognition. There is also a strong presence of 6,000 small and medium scale industries in the city. Almost all major retail brands have their outlets at city malls.

No wonder then that the city’s real estate market is fast gaining momentum. This hill station was once considered ‘cool’ to settle post-retirement. However, now a lot of people are looking up to the city for education and employment. There was a time when residential complexes were restricted to two or three floors and ‘other luxuries’ meant only a parking space. Today, high-end buildings with latest amenities are standing tall. Buying a home in Nashik now means being part of a project that boasts of a swimming pool, garden, good security and a number of amenities. Fully-furnished flats are also on offer.

Nashik still enjoys around 60 per cent green cover. Hence, developers, who are designing sprawling townships, take extra care by paying heed to overall development of the area in which they are launching projects. Most of them have ample open spaces, thus, making sure there is not a concrete jungle. Areas like Indira Nagar, Indira Nagar Annexe, Serene Meadows, Takli Road, Tidke Colony Link Road, have become prime locations for tranquil living. These localities are very much a part of the city, yet away from all the hustle and bustle.

This city has also emerged as a key educational hub with various business schools, engineering and medical colleges and educational institutes coming up. The Nashik Municipal Corporation also appears proactive in giving recreational facilities. The Deolali Camp area maintains its charm with a number of sanitariums and health centres. Since this area falls under the Cantonment Board, the old-world look and feel still remains intact.

The Special Economic Zone (SEZ) coming up at Sinner on 2,500 acres of land, is set to increase the demand for property in and around Nashik Road area. On the entertainment front as well, Nashik is well-equipped with multiplexes donning different areas of the city. Plus, there are shopping malls, which cater to the ever-growing needs of a citizen. Nashik is certainly Up the Chart in the State.
