PUNE: Five more sub-registrar offices in the city have begun working for extended hours and on Saturdays and Sundays to help citizens register property deals and to complete the necessary documentation.

Of these five, three offices are located near the government photo zinco press near the district collectorate and two near Kasarwadi railway station.

There are 26 sub-registrar offices in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. Of these, seven offices are either working for extended hours or on weekends. Two sub-registrar offices located in Erandwane area have been working for extended hours since last year.

Officials in the Inspector General of Registration and Controller of Stamps (IGR) office said longer working hours would reduce waiting and delays.

Extra hours and working on Saturdays and Sundays will help officer-goers, as they would be able to get their property registration procedure completed before or after their office hours, the officials added.

An estimated 1.000 documents are registered every day at sub-registrar offices in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad under various sections. Of these, the maximum number of documents are sale-purchase deeds, gift deeds, mortgage and development agreements.

Of the five offices, Haveli number 10 and 11 offices are located near photo zinco press and Haveli number 25 and 17 near Kasarwadi railway station.

These offices work in two shifts – 7am and 2pm and 2pm to 9pm. Haveli number 23 office will work between 10am and 6pm and on weekends. This office will remain closed on Mondays.

Meanwhile, officials in the IGR said two more sub-registrar offices have been sanctioned for the city, of which one would come up in Wagholi area.

Another office will be for online registration. Its location will be decided soon. Officials said a proposal for four new offices was submitted to the government of which two were sanctioned.

The officials said most financial transactions including payment of duties and taxes in IGR office are done electronically to avoid delays and waiting at banks. The registration can be done at any sub-registrar office due to inter-linking of all offices, the officials said.
