NAGPUR: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) property tax department's bifurcation proposal is likely to be relegated to the back burner. The NMC union headed by BJP state president and South-West Nagpur MLA Devendra Fadnavis has opposed the proposal by leaders of BJP-led ruling alliance.
Chairman of consultative committee Girish Deshmukh had proposed to divide the department into two wings. The plan was to formulate separate departments for assessment and recovery. The plan aimed to increase revenue and ensure assessment of new properties and revaluation of existing properties from time to time.
The office bearers of the union, Rashtriya Nagpur Corporation Employees Association, met mayor Anil Sole on Monday and demanded that the proposal be put on hold. With opposition from the union led by Fadnavis, the ruling alliance is likely to keep the proposal on hold. The union leaders said Sole had assured them as much.
