PUNE: The property tax department of the PimpriChinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has collected Rs 144.48 crore in the first three months of the financial year.
Bhanudas Gaikwad, assistant municipal commissioner and chief of the property tax department, said, “The civic body had appealed to the property holders to pay the tax amount for the entire year in advance to avail of various concessions. The revenue collected has increased by Rs 32.22 crore this year as compared to the corresponding period, last year.”
The civic body gives a 50% concession in general tax to ex-servicemen and freedom fighters, and women property holders who own a single property. As many as 2,223 ex-servicemen and 4,360 women property holders availed of the benefit, this year.
The civic body also gives a 10% concession in general tax to owners of residential properties and a 5% concession to owners of commercial and industrials properties if the tax amount for the year is paid in advance. A total of 1.62 lakh property holders have availed of this benefit, Gaikwad said.
The civic body has appealed to citizens to pay property tax for the first six months before September 30, failing which property owners will be charged 2% of the tax amount per month as penalty. The property tax department plans to collect Rs 317 crore in the current financial year.
