PUNE: The property tax department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has started its own website to help citizens resolve their property tax issues.

The website offers solutions for main concerns of citizens, such as faulty tax bills and cases of incorrect imposition of tax.

“Earlier, the property tax department’s information was available on the PMC portal. However, most citizens found it difficult to access the information and hence we decided to launch a separate website. The new website provides all the information citizens would like to have about property tax. This effort will also help citizens who want to pay property tax online,” said PMC’s tax department head Hemant Nikam.

Property tax is a levy imposed by the government on a person’s real or personal property. The property is assessed to give it a value, and that value is then taxed. The amount of tax a property owner owed is determined by multiplying the fair market value of the property by the current tax rate.

The PMC is facing significant technical problems in issuing property tax bills and sending them to property owners.

Besides, hundreds of citizens approach the PMC every year to complain about faulty bills. Nikam said that the new website would help resolve these issues and facilitate citizens to pay property tax in the stipulated period.
