MUMBAI: Residents of Campa Cola compound on February 20 submitted all relevant documents to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to find a solution to the ongoing issue arising out of orders to demolish their homes.

As directed by the Supreme Court, the residents submitted various options to the BMC seeking to resolve the ongoing Campa Cola issue. This comes in the wake of the Apex Court granting four weeks to the BMC and residents to come up with a mutually acceptable solution.

The SC had requested both counsels to jointly address the issue and find a solution. Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan had also assured the residents at the Nagpur winter session that he would arrange a joint meeting with BMC. The CM had mentioned that a study was underway to ascertain the extent of construction that could be retained within the permissible FSI limits and what ultimately has to be demolished.

Yogesh Malhotra, a resident of Campa Cola compound said, “We will not comment as the matter is subjudice. But we have submitted three options to the BMC. The civic officials have assured to study them.”

The Campa Cola compound has seven buildings – Midtown, Esha Ekta Apartments, Shubh Apartments, Patel Apartments (two buildings), B Y Apartments and Orchid – which have 35 illegal floors containing 99 flats spread over 90,000 sq ft of area. While the builders were granted permission for ground-plus-five floors, Midtown went up to 20 floors, Orchid to 17, Esha Ekta to eight, Shubh to seven and BY and Patel to six floors each. Of these Shubh Apartments’ residents have been given deadline upto November 30 to vacate their houses.
