NASHIK: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to send reminders through SMS and emails to property holders pertaining to their outstanding tax dues from April 1.

This is a part of the NMC's steps taken to increase revenue through property tax and water tax. The civic administration has started collecting data on cellphone numbers and emails of property holders across the city.

An NMC official said, "We plan to distribute property tax bills for the next financial year to property holders in April. Thereafter, we will start sending reminders pertaining to tax dues every month."

"We have collected cellphone numbers and email ids of around 47,000 property holders so far and the rest of the data will be collected soon. The idea is to reach out to at least 70% of total property holders through SMS and email ids. This will save our time and money. A rebate of 5% will be given to tax payers if they paid their taxes in the first month of the financial year, ie, in April, while a rebate of 2% and 3% will be given in May and June, respectively," the official added.

Moreover, the NMC has also started an online payment facility for property tax and has tied up with a private bank to pay taxes at its branches across the city. Property holders can also download their property tax bills from the civic body's website.

The city has 3.79 lakh property tax payers.
