BHUBANESWAR: Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) recently issued a show-cause notice to all its empanelled architects for failing to submit periodic progress reports of building plans of high-rise structures in the City.
BDA’s planning section provides empanelment to the architects, who then review and process the building plans to see that they adhere to building by-laws. At present, about 400 architects are empanelled with BDA, out of which details of only 172 are displayed on the website.
They are supposed to submit a report on the progress made by the builders every six months. But in the last one year, no report has been submitted by any empanelled architect.
Initially, the action has been taken against the architects associated with processing of building plans of structures comprising more than three floors.
A BDA official said if the explanations provided by the architects are not satisfactory, their empanelment will be cancelled. The enforcement section has already proposed to black-list the empanelled architect associated with the construction of a five-storey building in Ashok Nagar.
The building was demolished by civic authorities last year for violating building by-laws.
Recommendation for black-listing two other empanelled architects is also lying with the authorities.
The decision will not only tighten the noose around the empanelled architects to adhere to regulations but also allow BDA to keep track of any deviation made by builders and check large scale illegalities, an official said.
