BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has decided to set up a special redressal system to resolve planning-wing related grievances instantly.

The dedicated grievance-address cell will commence work under the supervision of BDAs planning section between 10.30 am and 1.30 pin every Friday beginning August 2.

Highly placed sources told Orissa POST that the decision has been taken in the backdrop of commissioning of a Planning Vigilance Squad (PVS) last month, to keep tabs, on the mushrooming illegal constructions and encroachments in the city.

Sources said the development authority has been flooded with planning related grievances but the complaints are yet to be resolved due to the lackadaisical approach of the officials.

BDA planning member Pitabasa Sahu said the grievance redresaal system was aimed at expediting compliance rate of the grievances related to planning. ,

"Complaints will be resolved with utmost concern and serious efforts would be made to address them within the stipulated time," Sahu said. "Complaints related to de

viations in the approved building plans, violation of Orissa Development Authority Act norms and encroachment of private or government land can be lodged with the grievance cell," he stated. Notably, Chief Secretary JK Mohapatra has told the BDA and the civic body - the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) top brass - to speed up the process of resolving peoples' grievances and put in serious efforts for the same.

Abhijit Satpathy, a resident of Shahid Nagar, said the on spot redressal of the complaints was expected to be a major thrust of the new system introduced by BDA.

Since the formation of the vigilance squad, the development authority has intensified its monitoring mechanism against construction deviation.

Notably, BDA has recently cancelled the building plan of a 14-storied building for alleged discrepancies in its land ownership.

The department issued a notice to the chief executive officer of All Orissa State Bank Officers Housing Co-operative Society Ltd asking them to forfeit the security deposit for producing "false mid fabricated affidavit" to mislead the BDA.
