BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Saturday launched 'Citizen Connect Initiative' to invite opinion from people on Smart City. This will help the civic body in prioritizing the top three programmes planned under the Smart City.

The drive was launched at a meeting where city mayor Anant Narayan Jena, BMC commissioner Krishan Kumar, tourism minister Ashok Panda and Bhubaneswar (Morth) MLA Priyadarshi Mishra were present.

According to the BMC, people can mention the services they want on priority under the Smart City programme in a format and put them in a drop box. A website was also launched and it will facilitate online posting of the views.

"This is a marathon programme through which we will be able to know the citizens' choices. The idea is to allow the citizens make us know how they want to see their city in future," said the mayor.

The BMC has prepared two varieties of formats to obtain people's choices. While one format called 'city-wide smart solutions, Bhubaneswar' has seven options, the other format 'smart district, Bhubaneswar' has six options.

The smart solutions format has options such as governance, heritage and tourism and culture, drinking water, solid waste management, liquid waste management, public transport, and traffic and parking. The other format has options like heritage district, infocity district, south city district, multi-modal transport district, Khandagiri district and Laxmisagar district.

A BMC spokesperson said, "People can tick three options in both the formats. After gathering all the sheets, we will see which three options have been ticked most. Accordingly, we will plan strategies to implement those for the citizens."
