BHUBANESWAR/CUTTACK: RK Patra, retired Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court and former Chairman of Odisha Human Rights Commisssion, probing the multi-crore chit fund scam in the state will start hear­ing of the case from September 6.

The probe panel will receive affidavits from the depositors who have lost their hard-earned money through fraudulent schemes of the chit fund companies. The process of receiving affidavits will go on for four weeks, Justice Patra said.

He added that notifi­cation to this effect will be issued in a day or two. The chit fund victims can also send their affidavit through post to the office of the commission now at state police headquarters in Cuttack.

Following uproar and protests from the depositors and opposition parties, the State Government has appointed Justice Patra to look into the chit fund.

The government has also decided to set up spe­cial courts for speedy trial of cases to the scam. Besides, special prosecu­tors will be engaged to handle such cases.

Besides, to protect the interest of small investors, the CM has also announced creation of a corpus fund of Rs 300 crore. He had said that under no circumstance his government will allow the genuine investors to suffer loss of their hard earned money.

The state government has been in touch with the Centre for the Presidential assent of the Odisha Protection of Interest of Depositors (in financial establishment) Bill 2011.

The government also decided to open cells in every district in the office of the superintendents of police (SP) and SPs have been directed to meet com­plaints on a regular basis.
