BERHAMPUR: erhampur: With the police failing to file chargesheet against two persons arrested in connection with a chit fund scam, the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court here granted them bail Thursday.
Baidyanathpur police had arrested the accused G Mohan Rao and Bijay Kumar Nayak, Managers of the Arabinda Nagar branch of Rushikulya Agro Lnfra Ltd here, May 12.
However, their role in `shielding' the two has raised many eyebrows as Investigating Officer Parbati Hembram has not file chargesheet against them even 60 days after their arrest. Counsels of the accused Sisir Padhi and Manabhanjan Patnaik took the opportunity and filed a petition at the SDJM court. Other lawyers in the court condemned the role of police.
ASTHA FRAUD: Hearing another chit fund scam, however, the court rejected the bail plea of Subhranshu Lenka, chief of Astha International Ltd. He was later remanded in police custody and lodged at Jharpada jail in Bhubaneswar.
Lenka was arrested on the charge of duping scores of people of crores of rupees. A local resident had filed a complaint against him and other . executives of the company alleging they had cheated him of Rs 5.51akh.
