BHUBANESWAR: The Crime Branch (CB), probing the alleged multi-crore fraud by Seashore Group, on Monday seized two prints of an upcoming Odia movie in which the company's CMD Prasant Dash invested more than Rs 50 lakh.
"He diverted the public deposits into the movie," said a senior CB officer. Asked whether the CB would stop release of the movie, the officer said it would be decided later. A private news channel had shown clippings of a ruling party MP attending the movie's mahurat in Cuttack in October, 2010.
In a related development, hearing on the bail application of Dash at Koraput's sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) court could not be taken up as lawyers boycotted all court activities on Monday protesting against alleged police highhandedness. "We had filed the bail application on Sunday night and his application was listed for Monday. We expect a hearing on the application on Tuesday," said Dash's counsel T N Murthy.
"Police had misbehaved with a few lawyers while producing Dash in the court on Sunday night. Since a police officer has apologized , hopefully the association will call off its strike on Tuesday, said president of Koraput bar association Nihar Patnaik. Dash was produced before SDJM S K Pattnaik on Sunday night, who remanded him in judicial custody till July 2.
