BHUBANESWAR: The much-hyped fraud by AT Group has stirred public curiosity as it was evident during the interrogation of some influential builders, businessmen and media entrepreneurs, having alleged nexus with the company, at Kharvela Nagar police station here on Tuesday.
The police station was abuzz with activity from morning as a large number of people had gathered outside it for a glimpse of these persons. While police had a tough time controlling the crowd and regulating the traffic, the eight persons, who were interrogated, tried their best to avoid the media and public glare. Some of them covered their faces. Some builders also came to the police station with bodyguards and bouncers.
Police are likely to remain on the toe on Wednesday as several other big shots, including Odisha Cricket Association secretary Asirbad Behera, are slated to turn up for questioning at the same police station.
"It would have been nice to watch some ministers and MLAs at the police station. We cannot digest the police claim that not a single minister or MLA is involved in the fraud, even as company's CMD Pradip Sethi has already told the media that he bribed many politicians of crores of rupees," said Srikant Padhi, a spectator.
Cashing in on the occasion, several persons from different parts of the state came to the police station to lodge their complaints against AT Group. "I paid Rs 1 lakh advance to AT Group in 2011 to get a house worth nearly Rs 10 lakh, on the city outskirts. Neither did I get the house, nor the advance money," said Upendra Kumar Panda, a resident of Angul.
