SAMBALPUR: A dalit family of Pipilipali village under Sasan police limits has threatened to lock the gate of the revenue divisional commissioner's (RDC) office on Wednesday in protest against the injustice meted out to them.
The couple, Rajendra Kusum and Bharati, currently on dharna in front of the RDC's office alleged that they are being victimized by the upper class people who forcefully snatched away the land given to their family by the government in 1963.
They said over the last 3 to 4 years they have moved police and administrative machinery for justice but in vain. "My grandfather got 2.4 acre of land from the government because we belong to the landless catergory. But some upper caste people snatched the land," said Rajendra.
He claimed that 2.4 acre bearing plot no. 30 of MS khata no.63 of Pipilipali village was issued in favour of his grandfather Budhu Kusum in 1963. But Rinku Babu and his father, Santosh Babu, and Rupesh and his father Radhesyam have forcefully taken away the land citing that it belongs to them under "chaka" settlement.
"With the land gone, we have lost our sole source of income. I have requested everyone, including police, but no one has come to my rescue," Rajendra said.
Sub-divisional police officer (Sambalpur) Utkal Das said after receiving his notice, the tahsildar was directed to take immediate steps to settle the issue. "We have requested the agitator to refrain from the agitation as we have already asked the tahsildar to visit the place and solve the matter by identifying his land," Das said.
