BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has cancelled the building plan approval submitted by the residents of the revenue villages added under it recently.

The residents of Pipili, Jatani, Khurda and Balianta will now have to apply afresh for building plan approval as per the regulations of BDA. These constructions were declared illegal for violation of Sections 15 and 16 of the Odisha Development Authorities Act, 1982.

In a public notification issued by the development authority recently, the residents were told that the buildings or apartments constructed on the approval of Sarpanch or Block Development Officer (BDO) were illegally approved and hence the construction unauthorised.

It also forbid the public builders from undertaking such construction in future, without appropriate approval, or else face strict action.

The move will dissuade the builders who preferred taking up real estate projects on the outskirts of the city due to lower land prices.

Sources said the real estate developers can apply for the building plan approval afresh and will receive it within 60 days.
