Ghangapatna Govt Land in Odisha
BHUBANESWAR: Apart from officials involved in land grab at Ghangapatna here, the state government will initiate criminal action against those who illegally bought government land, revenue minister Bijayshree Routray said here on Monday.
"We are verifying the transactions. Buyers will face action," the minister told reporters here.
On August 28, the state government ordered a Crime Branch probe into the land grab after a departmental inquiry report submitted by collector (Khurda) Niranjan Sahu pointed out that over 76 acre government land had been illegally occupied.
Some residents of Ghangapatna claimed that they had lodged a complaint with Khurda collector in October 2008, alleging massive encroachment of government land in their village.
They had followed it up with a complaint in the grievance cell of chief minister Naveen Patnaik. However, it seems neither of the two complaints were taken seriously as otherwise an inquiry could have been conducted earlier, sources said.
