BHUBANESWAR: More than 300 architects and engineers converged for two-day training programme organized by Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) in Collaboration with the Confederation On Indian Industry (CII), Odisha State Council, on planning and designing of green building.

The training is organized to impart knowledge on Green Building concepts, IGBC rating system and share best practice in Green Building to the architects. It has covered the topics such as Sustainbale Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and   Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality, Innovation in Design and Green Building Case Study.

The training programme will be coordinated by two counsellors of Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre (SGGBC). SGGBC's principal counsellor M Anand said, "This is more of an awareness and information sharing session about green buildings and green interiors."

The major emphasis of the training programme will be on five aspects of constructing a green building - site, water availability, energy, materials used for construction and the quality of the building.

The architects will first be provided an idea about green building construction after which they will be briefed about the technicalities related to construction.

The workshop comes at a time when the BDA faces the challenge to go for ecologically and economically sustainable housing by adhering to the Green Building concepts in face of a growing urban land foot print and urban population.

BDA planning member Pitabasa Sahoo said information gained from the training programme will eventually reflect in the

drawings made by the architects while planning a new; building or the space in future.

The interiors of the buildings should also follow the green building norms, he added.

Only two buildings in the city have obtained green building certification from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).

Anand said many residen-, tial projects of the city have also received IGBC's green building certification.

CII Odisha State Council Chairman MK Gupta and convener Tapan Mohanty were also present at the training programme.
