BERHAMPUR: The executive officer of Hinjili notified area council (NAC) in Ganjam district, M NageswaraSubudhi, has landed in trouble over the alleged allotment of a house on August 13, a day after model code of conduct for urban local bodies election came to force. Hinjili is the home turf of chief minister NaveenPatnaik.
The sub-collector (Chhatrapur) and tehsildar (Hinjili) have been asked to conduct an inquiry into the allegation. While district Congress committee president Bhagaban Gantayat lodged a complaint in this regard, seven out of 21 councillors of Hinjili NAC have demanded a special council meeting to discuss the issue.
"The officers have been asked to submit the inquiry report at the earliest. We expect the report by Wednesday," said nodal officer, enforcement cell, Dipti Mahapatro. The cell looks into complaints on violation of the model code of conduct in the district.
The councillors, who had earlier threatened to launch a hunger strike, postponed their stir after the inquiry was ordered.
Subudhi refuted the allegation. "The house was transferred in the name of the allottees' husband on August 1. A decision in this regard was taken in the NAC council on July 18," he said.
According to enforcement cell officers, this was the only complaint about violation of the code of conduct received so far.
