BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik after reviewing the bridge construction works here on Thursday directed the Rural Development Department to complete the construction works of at least 200 bridges per year.
According to the departmental sources, the RD Department has taken the work orders for construction of 1,000 bridges, out of which 430 are under construction. Patnaik emphasised on completion of construction of the bridges in time after finishing the tender process and other formalities within the stipulated time. He also directed the department officials to complete 600 bridges within three years after finalising the plans.
Similarly, the Works Department has undertaken construction of 45 big bridge projects. These projects were sanctioned under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) provided by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and under the State Plan and the Revised Long Term Action Plan (RLTAP) for the KBK districts.
Out of the total 45 bridges under the Works Department, 30 are under construction. Construction of eight bridges would be completed during the current year while the tender process for construction of 15 bridges is going on, said the department officials. Discussion was also held for construction of 10 railway over-bridges in the State.
Patnaik suggested the department to review the progress of the works after making a monthly work plan.
