Cuttack, Feb 12: The budget of Cuttack Municipality Corporation (CMC) for 2013-14 was presented by Municipal Commissioner Nihar Ranjan Mohapatra, Tuesday.
During the discussion on the budget, Corporators proposed to increase taxes on rent of Saheed Bhawan, Kalyan Mandaps, municipal houses and shops. They also urged the civic authorities to collect holding tax from all the 54 wards regularly for better financial health of the CMC which would help carry out various ongoing development projects in the city.
Despite spending crores of rupees, the sanitation in the city is in disarray. Taking into account the rampant mosquito menace in the city, it was decided to expedite sanitation and anti-mosquito drives in the city.
Similarly, proposals like allocation of more funds to renovate Bishabanta Pandit Library, setting up of an e-library, night shelter, installation of three gasified lights at the graveyards in Khannagar, Kaliaboda and Satichaura, repair of the streetlights, installation of high-mast lights and repair of drains also came up.
Mayor Saumendra Ghose informed the House that Rs 30 crore has been allocated by the Government to build concrete roads in the city. He also said the flaws in the budget would be amended and sent to the Government for approval within 15 days.
An amount of Rs 245.69 crore has been fixed as the revenue for the current year in the fiscal allocation while Rs 245. 52 crore has been fixed as the expenditure budget. Rs 10.85 crore has been kept aside for tax and revenue and Rs 6.2 crore for entry tax, Rs 40.20 lakh for users charge, Rs 4.82 lakh for house rent, Rs 40.3 crore for fees and fines, Rs 157.57 crore for government grant, loan and subsidy. Similarly, Rs 6.2 crore has been kept aside for other expenditures, include Rs 3.82 crore for extra expenditures.
Similarly, the revenue budget includes the salaries of CMC employees, Rs 40.1 crore for pensions, 16.7 crore for public health and sanitation, Rs 31.11 crore for construction and repair of roads, Rs 1.78 crore for other emergency expenditures, Rs 151.87 crore for government grants expenditure and special schemes and Rs 3. 94 crore for other expenditures.
