CHANDIGARH: National Scheduled Castes Alliance (NSCA) president Paramjit Saingh Kainth on Tuesday demanded a commission of inquiry to probe the alleged nexus between politicians and real estate entrepreneurs in Punjab, especially to probe the growth of realtor Kulwant Singh as a candidate of the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in the Lok Sabha elections.

"The latest case is that of Kulwant Singh who has been given the SAD ticket from Fatehgarh Sahib, thanks to the generosity shown by the party leaders. Some other big realtors who enjoyed political patronage are NK Sharma, the Pearl group and many others," Kainth said in a statement here.

Citing HT news reports, Kainth pointed out that SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, who had earlier accused former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh of passing benefits of Rs. 1,500 crore to Kulwant Singh of the Janta Land Promoters Limited (JLPL), had now given the party ticket to the realtor.

"Sukhbir had alleged at a press conference on December 3, 2006 that Amarinder had over-ruled 43 objections raised by officials of the Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority and even changed the master plan of SAS Nagar to benefit the realtor, and the SAD had also made Amarinder's 'undue favours to realtors' an election issue in the 2007 assembly elections," Kainth said.

"The matter was also raised in Parliament and a CBI probe was demanded by the SAD and the CPI," he said, raising questions as to how come the same JLPL icon got the SAD candidature for the Lok Sabha elections.

He said the Pearl group had been used to promote kabaddi tournaments while others like NK Sharma and Kulwant Singh were funding elections and getting party tickets.
