CHENNAI: Police raided a Vadapalani hotel room on Friday night after a Malayalam playback singer alleged that the man who had grabbed his property was staying there. However, the accused had left by the time police arrived.
Madhu Balakrishnan, a singer in Malayalam movies and brother-in-law of former India cricketer Sreesanth, was in the bar when he saw Siva, 45, of Choolaimedu. He immediately held Siva's shirt and blows were exchanged. The hotel employees tried to pacify them, but later called the police control room.
A team from the Vadapalani police rushed to the hotel. When questioned, Balakrishnan said he had been cheated by Siva. The police team raided the room in which Siva was said to be staying, but he was missing. They seized a laptop and some of his belongings. Police registered a case and are looking for Siva.
After inquiries, a police officer said that Balakrishnan, who owned a flat in Saligramam, became friends with Siva after coming to know his wife came from the same village as Siva near Kochi. "Four years ago, when Siva told Balakrishnan he was coming to Chennai for his wife's treatment, Balakrishnan offered the flat on rent to Siva."
Later, Siva advised Balakrishnan to sell his flat and buy a property in R A Puram. "Balakrishnan agreed and gave the original documents of his flat to Siva who got it registered in his name fraudulently and sold it to another person," the officer said.
Siva vanished soon after and Balakrishnan registered a police complaint. He later he filed a case at a city civil court. When he saw Siva at the hotel on Friday a clash erupted, police said.
