KOLKATA: With the state secretariat now shifted to Nabanna in Howrah, the district is getting more importance. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee wants overall infrastructure development of the district including having more routes for JNNURM buses, giving more permits to no-refusal taxis and implementing the ongoing development projects fast.

The chief minister recently took stock of how the government departments are functioning in Howrah. State chief secretary, Howrah mayor and the DM were present, along with Trinamool MPs Prasun Banerjee and Sultan Ahmed.

According to sources, the chief minister has asked officials to see that various government schemes are implemented properly in Howrah.

The entire transport system of Howrah will be revamped with new bus routes connecting the rural areas of the district to Kolkata. Already, the transport department is beefing up the traffic management system to cope with the increasing vehicular load.

The chief minister also stressed on the need to expedite wok for the textile park in Belur and the mother and child hub at Uluberia Hospital. The CM also highlighted on the need to protect greenery and waterbodies.
