MUMBAI: The State of Maharashtra would require a minimum of about 50 lakh new housing units by 2022 to meet urbanisation, as a part of the Union Government’s vision of “Housing for All”, experts opined on Wednesday during a press meet organised here on the eve of a conclave titled - ‘Vision Maharashtra – Housing for All by 2022’
The conclave shall be held on March’4 next month, to be hosted by realtors apex body NAREDCO (National Real Estate Development Council). The conclave will address various issues in order to overcome the housing deficit in the State and strategies and action plan to augment supply of housing stock especially targeting the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Low Income Group (LIG) segments where the shortage is as high as 96%.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will inaugurate the occasion. About 600 delegates from all over the country are expected to participate in the conclave. Representatives of the Central and State governments, State Development Authorities and Housing Boards, besides real estate promoters, developers, banking and housing finance institutions, foreign direct investors, private equity players and town planners will also participate in the event, the official press release said.
“We are extremely happy that the Government has taken the issue of housing very seriously and is working in the right direction,” NAREDCO national president Sunil Mantri said to media persons.
“Despite Maharashtra being the economic and industrial powerhouse of India, the state is still reeling under acute shortage with respect to housing especially “affordable” housing,” Chintan Patel – Partner, Real Estate & Hospitality at KPMG, India stated during the press meet.
