Jharkhand: Union minister of state for rural development, panchayati raj, drinking water and sanitation Upendra Kushwaha on Sunday said all eligible families would be provided dwelling units under the Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) by 2022.
He further said that the Centre was planning to increase the assistance for housing to meet the inflated cost under the social welfare scheme that aims to provide homes to the rural poor.
Kushwaha was in Dhanbad to attend a meeting of his political outfit, Rashtriya Lok Samata Party, to discuss preparations for the Assembly polls in Jharkhand, where the BJP ally seeks to make inroads.
Interacting with mediapersons, the Union minister said discussions were being held on a proposal to raise the IAY assistance from Rs 70,000 to Rs 1.15 lakh per unit in plain areas.
Also, every rural household will be provided with a toilet and drinking water facility by the end of 2019.
No alliance JVM chief Babulal Marandi on Sunday said that his party would not enter into any alliance to form a government after the Assembly elections in Jharkhand.
Marandi, who was also in Dhanbad, accused chief minister Hemant Soren and his father Shibu Soren of opportunism and alleged that the duo had caused the maximum damage to the state so far.
