PORVORIM: Independent Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai alleged in the Goa legislative assembly on Thursday that the Regional Plan (RP) is circumvented to convert land under the guise of ecotourism.
Around 22 lakh sqm of land earmarked as orchards and forests was converted by adopting this modus operandi, said the Fatorda MLA during 'Question Hour' as he raised questions about conversion of survey no 330/1 in Loliem village in Canacona by a Delhi-based company.
He alleged this kind of concession is given to certain builders in Canacona alone and demanded that the NOC granted to the Delhi developer be revoked. "We are told that if the zone of the land has to be changed it can be done if there is conformity in RP 2001 and 2021," he pointed out, but, this criterion was not followed, he alleged. In this case, Sardesai claimed land has been converted though it was shown as orchard land in RP 2001.
Forest minister Alina Saldanha said the NOC was granted only to the laterite area, and it would be revoked if the builder does construction in the vegetated area. "I don't mean to say you are involved, but, may be people who spent crores to get you elected collected money by granting such conversion," he said.
