Navi Mumbai: Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday urged builders to come up with affordable housing projects in order to boost the city's infrastructure.

He was speaking at the 15th BANM property exhibition where he was the chief guest for the inaugural function.

"Builders must come up with affordable and low cost houses and be satisfied with less profit margin as they play a pivotal role in the city's infrastructure development. There have been instances where residential projects have been completed but flats have not been sold due to the steep property prices," said Gadkari.

The minister also urged the mayor to take steps against water pollution and said NMMC should use treated water to generate biogas, which can be used to run buses.

Talking about the PAPs, he said that they should be given suitable compensation and that the government will be liable to give them jobs.

He also emphasized the need for water transport. A passenger terminal has been envisaged for the BPT (Bombay Port Trust) which will boost the water transport, he said.
