KOLHAPUR: The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has demanded 44 hectares of land in Kolhapur for construction of affordable housing, Ravindra Waikar, minister for state for housing, said here.
At present the MHADA has 2 hectares of land in Kolhapur, which is not enough to implement large scale housing development programmes, he added. "There is a need to construct affordable housing in Karvir, Kagal, Hatkanangale, Shirol and Gadhinglaj, where urbanization is fast. Once we get the land, we can start the housing development programme for Kolhapur,"
Waikar said while talking to media persons. The MHADA is also planning to revoke the deal with individuals and societies which had taken land 10 years ago but not utilized it. "Our department is making a list of such defaulters. We will take possession of the plots which have remained unutilized over a decade. The MHADA will issue notices to such individuals and societies soon," Waikar said.
The MHADA has pending dues of Rs 1 crore in Kolhapur which will be recovered in the next six months. "Some beneficiaries have not made the mandatory payments. We have asked the officers to recover the amount in six months. If the beneficiaries failed to pay the dues, our officers will start taking possession of their homes," Waikar warned.
"We are also trying to remove the flaws in issuing homes and land to the beneficiaries. It is mandatory for the MHADA to construct sewage treatment plant. We are talking to the other departments to make the norm mandatory for all," Waikar said.
