CHANDIGARH: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Punjabi singer Jassi Jasraj on Thursday alleged that village common land (shamlat) had been allegedly grabbed for construction of flats in a village near Kharar.
The AAP leader alleged that information obtained under the RTI Act revealed that even though a police case had been registered in 2007, no action was taken. "This is tip of the iceberg; we firmly believe that there are many such cases throughout Punjab and they need to be unearthed," he said.
Addressing a press conference, Jassi claimed that the housing project that had come up in Desu Majra village belongs to a former local Akali leader, who was now fighting municipal elections as an Independent candidate. However, the person named by him was not available for comments.
Jassi added that he is yet to receive reply to his queries about the agency that had approved construction on the village land.
