BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and police on Saturday jointly demolished the concrete canopy and boundary wall at Subham Market complex in Unit-III to create parking space.

BDA sources said the canopy and wall were obstructing the road and passage to the market. As a result, people were not able to park vehicles on its premises. "Now people can park vehicles both on the roadside as well as inside the market complex," said BDA enforcement officer Deba Prasad Das.

He said traffic jams are a regular feature near the market because it is close to a mall. "We will create a slope to connect the road with the market to facilitate parking of vehicles," Das added.

The BDA is also likely to demolish the Kali temple near Vani Vihar. "We cleared many unauthorized structures from Vani Vihar to Rajmahal Square. If the temple is demolished, more vehicles can be parked on the busy route," said the BDA officer.

He added there are plans to raze many structures near Master Canteen Square.

Earlier, BDA demolished portions of 40 shops and razed two temples between Rajmahal and Sishu Bhawan. The demolition squad pulled down 200 hoardings from in front of shops.

Official sources said a joint team of police, BDA and BMC officers conducted a survey to identify the reasons of traffic congestion. On November 7, BDA razed four temples and seven small shops adjoining temples at Rasulgarh Square.
