Bhubaneswar Development Authority
BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has recommended the general administration (GA) department to take back a vast patch of land, where BDA City Centre (earlier Nicco Park), is running. This follows allegation of mismanagement by a private company, operating the amusement park on PPP mode.
Though BDA and Nicco (a private company) joined hands in 1999 to run the amusement park on 24 acre, Nicco subsequently withdrew. In 2007, the GA department allowed another company to partner with the BDA to run the park.
"We received complaints of mismanagement and misuse of the land by the company. We set up an internal committee to inquire into the matter," BDA vice-chairman Krishan Kumar told TOI.
It was found that the vast stretch of land allotted to the company was not being put to intended use. There was lack of transparency in the company's operations, Kumar said.
"I have recommended resumption of the land by the GA department. An appropriate mechanism should be devised for establishment of a world-class integrated entertainment complex on the land," Kumar said.
The company authorities were immediately not available for comment.
