PUNE: The Bombay high court has directed the city engineer of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to submit an affidavit before February 2 giving details about the demolition of unauthorized constructions from December 1, 2014 to January 31, 2015.

The court has also told the civic body to expedite filling of the sanctioned posts for undertaking the demolition drive. The directives were given during a hearing held on December 12, 2014 on a public interest litigation filed by Jayashree Dange against PCMC in 2010.

The additional government pleader (AGP) told the court that though a total of 155 posts have been sanctioned by the state government, two posts of executive engineers is awaiting sanction.

The state government has already drawn up a roster for 19 posts of deputy engineers while another for 62 posts of junior engineers and 72 posts of beat inspectors/ civil engineering assistants has been sent to the divisional commissioner for approval.

The court has directed both the state government and the divisional commissioner to decide about the posts within a month.

The petitioners' counsel submitted before the court that few structures have been demolished between September 1 and November 30, 2014. The civic body has submitted an affidavit in the court stating that many officers were on election duty which held up demolition. The affidavit also said that 76 structures covering a total area of 58,791 sq ft were demolished from September 1 and November 30, 2014.

The civic body had earlier said there were more than 63,000 unauthorized constructions in Pimpri Chinchwad and the civic body needed additional manpower for their demolition.
